So lately I’ve seen a lot of books getting revamped covers. Most of them I think were for the better, but there are one or two I disagree with. Anyway, I thought I’d just share them with you guys.
(Note: It turns out, I had the Before and After covers switched for The Girl. Blonde moment. Thank you to Stephanie for pointing that out!)

So what do you think? I like all the remakes better. What are your favorite cover revamps? What do you make of these? Were they all improvements?
I definitely like Kindred better. I’m a bit torn on the others, though… well, except the Guardian book. I like the old one better π

I like the revamps. Some are better and some are just different.

I am surprised by The Guardian one–the new boy on the cover looks like his wings are draped on poles rather than, you know, flesh and bone and feather. And the pose of both the models is a little off. π¦ The concept was good, it’s just the execution that didn’t follow through.
I’m also not that sure about the Captured one…the rose was pretty gory to begin with, and now that everything is red…I don’t know. I think this cover might actually pull me in better if it were more understated – just a few drops of blood.
I do like the new Ignite cover, and I’m kind of torn on the Kindred cover. I like the new fonts, but I actually like the fire flower a bit more than the ubiquitous cover couple. But but but, from my own cover design shenanigans, I know this is one of the hardest parts of being an indie writer (at least for me). We have to work through not only our own vision of the book, but what readers envision, and what we can realistically accomplish within our budgets for graphic design. And if you aren’t gifted with a natural grasp of developing awesome covers (which I’m not) there’s a lot of trial and error.
Great post!

The Girl covers should be switched. The one with just the girl is the newer cover.

Aha! Then I definitely like the new Girl / Guardian cover more. π

Captured, Thorn and Kindred, I liked the first cover the best. Thanks for sharing them with us, Ellisabeth.

Really? Hmm.

All but one I like the after covers better. The one I like first cover is Kindred. And I love the girls eyes on the after cover of Ignite. They match the flower and it all makes me think flames.

Fire plays a big part in IGNITE, so that’s good! =)

I love all the after covers better, definitely improvements. The Guardian covers I’m not sure about which one is “better.” I think it depends on the story itself.

IMHO all changes were better except the last. But that’s me. I wouldn’t pick up a book with the second cover of Kindred. The first has some mystery – promise of surprise. The new says, same old story. But I’m not your audience, being an old lady who like surprises π
note: The best cover change was the first. The girl looks sick on cover #1 and powerful on cover #2

I think the guy on the new KINDRED cover looks…odd. Maybe it’s the angle…but I agree with you about the IGNITE cover. She does look ill in the first one!

It’s interesting to see the changes. You have to roll with the times and keep your cover modern. It’s not always a case of making a cover better, but of keeping it updated.
